Asia is the one region where our relationship runs both ways. A substantial part of the catalogue is sourced from Asian manufacturers — Vietnamese and Thai food and beverage lines in particular — while European-origin branded goods move in the other direction to Asian importers and distributors. That gives a buyer here an unusual option: an assortment that mixes European lines with Asian-origin products from the same supplier and the same shipment.

It also means we are not selling into these markets on the assumption that imported goods are automatically attractive. Most Asian markets have deep domestic FMCG manufacturing, so imported assortments generally succeed where they are specific — a brand with recognition, a format not made locally, or a category where imported provenance carries weight.

Product origin

Where the goods actually come from

K.Distribution is based in France. Product origin varies by SKU and may include France, other European markets, Vietnam, Thailand and other sourcing markets. Company location is not product origin, and we never infer one from the other.

Where origin is confirmed for a product it is recorded against that product. Where it is not confirmed, we say so rather than guess — a wrong origin declaration causes far more difficulty at the border than an honest gap.

How product origin works

Company location ≠ product origin

We ship from France to Asia. That says nothing about where any individual product was manufactured, and destination duty treatment usually depends on the latter.

Regional breakdown

Buyer markets across Asia

Import requirements differ more sharply across Asia than in any other region we supply. Registration, labelling and shelf-life rules are set nationally and are not comparable between these groupings.

  • Southeast Asia

Both a sourcing base and a destination. Several markets in the region manufacture at scale for export, which makes them competitive on price for local categories while remaining open to imported branded lines. Registration requirements before import are common.

    VietnamThailandPhilippinesMalaysiaSingapore

  • East Asia

Mature retail and demanding specification. Buyers typically expect full product documentation up front, and labelling and ingredient-declaration rules are strictly applied. Assortments tend to be narrow and premium rather than broad.

    JapanSouth KoreaHong KongTaiwan

  • South Asia

Large markets with substantial domestic manufacturing and, in several cases, significant import duty on consumer goods. Landed cost rather than freight is usually the deciding factor on whether a line works.

    IndiaSri LankaBangladesh

  • Central Asia

Enquiries accepted where routing and documentation can be arranged. Several destinations are landlocked, so the movement combines a sea leg with substantial inland transport and the routing has to be settled before the commercial terms.

Markets listed are examples of destinations where buyer enquiries are accepted. They do not indicate a local presence, and they are not a coverage guarantee.

Who we serve

Professional buyers in Asia

Descriptions reflect how each buyer type typically operates in this region.

  • Importers

Bringing in branded international lines, usually holding the registrations the destination requires.

  • Distributors

Placing imported ranges into modern and traditional trade, often against a defined launch plan.

  • Trading companies

Sourcing across origins and moving goods between markets, where documentation for onward movement matters.

  • Wholesalers

Buying container or pallet quantities for onward sale, typically in categories with proven demand.

  • Retail groups

Central purchasing for supermarket and convenience formats, with tight specification requirements.

  • Speciality retail

Buyers stocking imported ranges for a defined customer base, taking many SKUs in small quantities.

Destination requirements

Registration, labelling and product suitability

European-origin products are not automatically suitable for every Asian destination, and treating them as though they were is the most common reason a shipment stalls. Requirements are set nationally: what satisfies one market may not satisfy its neighbour.

Product registration before import is common across the region, and lead times for it can be long. Labelling in the local language is frequently mandatory, and ingredient or additive rules can differ enough that a formulation sold in Europe is not permitted as-is. These are questions to settle before ordering, not after arrival.

  • Product registration is required before import in many destinations
  • Local-language labelling is frequently mandatory, sometimes on-pack rather than as an overlay
  • Ingredient and additive rules vary and can exclude a European formulation
  • Minimum remaining shelf life on arrival is set by the destination
  • Duty treatment varies significantly and materially affects landed cost

Consolidation

Mixed FMCG shipments

Products from several brands and categories combined into one planned load, so assortment breadth does not require a shipment per supplier.

  • Multiple brands in one shipment
  • Multiple categories in one shipment
  • Mixed pallets and mixed containers
  • Full container loads where volume justifies it
  • Quoted to your destination on an agreed Incoterm

Logistics

Ocean freight and palletised containers

Movements to Asia go by sea in palletised containers. The routing is generally well served, so the planning question is less about whether a route exists and more about how the assortment is built: which lines can share a container, how the load balances weight against volume, and whether registration is in place before the goods arrive.

Transit times depend on route, carrier and season, and we do not publish them. What we can confirm against an actual enquiry is what fits, how it loads and what the freight is quoted at.

  • Palletised 20ft, 40ft and 40ft high cube loads
  • Mixed containers across brands and categories where the destination permits
  • Load planned against carton dimensions rather than estimated
  • Freight quoted to a named discharge port on an agreed Incoterm

Why us

Why buyers supplying Asia work with K.Distribution

  • Multi-origin in one shipment

European branded lines and Asian-origin products from one supplier and one load.

  • Origin evidenced per line

Country of origin recorded per SKU, which matters where duty or registration depends on it.

  • Documentation prepared per destination

Export documentation assembled for the market being shipped to, not to a template.

  • Assortment breadth

A wide catalogue to build from where a narrow, specific range is what the market wants.

K.Distribution is an independent wholesaler and exporter. We are not an authorised, official or exclusive distributor of the brands we supply, and we are not affiliated with or endorsed by their owners. All trademarks are the property of their respective owners.

Questions

Supplying Asia: common questions

Can K.Distribution supply both European and Asian-origin products?
Yes, and it is one of the more useful things about sourcing this region through us. Part of the catalogue is sourced from Asian manufacturers and part from European ones, and both can appear in the same consolidated shipment. Origin is recorded per product, so a mixed-origin load can still be documented line by line.
Are European products suitable for every Asian market?
No, and we would not suggest otherwise. Ingredient rules, labelling requirements and registration obligations are set nationally and differ substantially across the region. A product cleared for one destination may need reformulation, relabelling or registration for another. Tell us the destination and we will tell you what we can evidence.
How long does product registration take?
It depends entirely on the destination and the product category, and it is administered by the importing country rather than by us — so any figure we published would be a guess. Registration is normally held by the importer. Where it applies, it is worth starting before placing the order rather than after.
Can you ship to a landlocked Central Asian market?
Enquiries are accepted. The movement combines a sea leg with substantial inland transport, so routing and the Incoterm need settling early — they affect cost and responsibility more than they would for a port destination.

Product availability, packaging, origin, documentation and destination eligibility can vary by SKU and market. Final requirements are confirmed during quotation and order review.
